B-BBEE verification requires businesses to provide documented proof of their contributions to the core elements of empowerment. These elements are critical for securing a favourable B-BBEE rating and ensuring compliance.

1. Ownership
This element assesses the level of Black ownership within your business. Proof, such as share certificates, must be submitted to demonstrate that HDIs hold equity.

2. Management & Employment Equity
The Management element of B-BBEE measures the representation of Black individuals in senior decision-making roles within a company. This includes both ownership participation and direct involvement in day-to-day operations and strategic management. Businesses must provide proof of HDIs (Historically Disadvantaged Individuals) holding top leadership positions, including documentation of job roles, responsibilities, and compensation. Ensuring diversity in leadership helps foster an inclusive environment and demonstrates a commitment to transformation.

Employment Equity focuses on the fair representation of Black employees across all levels of the workforce. Companies are required to submit an Employment Equity (EE) report, which shows the involvement of PDIs (Previously Disadvantaged Individuals) at different tiers of the organization. Compliance with Employment Equity ensures that businesses contribute to a more inclusive and diverse workforce in line with South Africa’s economic empowerment goals.

3. Skills Development
Businesses must provide evidence of their investment in training and development for HDIs. This includes accredited programs, mentorship initiatives, and in-house training sessions.

4. Preferential Procurement
This element evaluates your procurement from BEE-compliant suppliers, with proof required to show the percentage of your total procurement spend allocated to such suppliers.

5. Supplier & Enterprise Development
Supplier Development encourages businesses to procure goods and services from B-BBEE-compliant suppliers. It aims to create a more inclusive economy by supporting Black-owned businesses. Companies must provide evidence of their procurement practices, showing that a significant percentage of their total spending is directed towards suppliers with strong B-BBEE credentials. This not only strengthens supplier relationships but also enhances the company’s overall B-BBEE score.

Enterprise Development involves providing financial and non-financial support to emerging Black-owned businesses, enabling them to participate more effectively in the mainstream economy. This element focuses on fostering entrepreneurship by aiding small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through funding, mentorship, and business opportunities. By contributing to the growth of Black-owned businesses, companies play a key role in expanding economic participation and uplifting local communities.

6. Socio-Economic Development
Social contributions benefiting employees, their families, and communities, such as paying for school fees or supporting community initiatives, must be documented.
